Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Fern ("the App") is a period and pregnancy tracking application developed by Piotr Gebski ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App.

We built Fern with a fundamental belief: intimate health data deserves the highest level of protection. This policy reflects that commitment.

2. Information We Collect

We collect no information whatsoever.

Fern is designed to function entirely on your device. The App does not:

• Require you to create an account
• Collect your name, email, or any identifying information
• Track your location
• Collect device identifiers
• Use analytics or tracking SDKs
• Make network requests for data collection
• Collect crash reports
• Use cookies or similar technologies

3. Data You Enter

When you use Fern, you may enter personal health data including:

• Period start and end dates
• Cycle predictions and fertile window data
• Symptoms and their severity
• Moods and emotions
• Notes and observations
• Pregnancy-related data (due dates, weight, blood pressure, kick counts)
• Appointment information
• Bump photos

All of this data is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is never transmitted to our servers or any third party because we have no servers and no third-party integrations.

4. iCloud Sync (Optional)

Fern offers an optional iCloud sync feature that is disabled by default. If you choose to enable it:

• Your data syncs to your private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit
• Only you can access this data through your Apple ID
• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
• We have no access to your iCloud data
• You can disable sync at any time, and your local data is preserved

iCloud sync is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

5. In-App Purchases

Fern offers optional premium features through Apple's App Store. All purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information, Apple ID, or any purchase details beyond the entitlement status stored locally on your device.

6. Data Backup and Export

Fern provides the ability to export your data as an encrypted backup file. When you create a backup:

• The backup is encrypted with a password you choose using AES-GCM encryption
• The encrypted file is saved to a location you choose on your device
• We never have access to your backup files or your encryption password

You can also generate PDF reports of your cycle data to share with healthcare providers. These reports are generated locally on your device.

7. Third-Party Services

Fern uses no third-party SDKs, libraries, or services that collect data. The only external services involved are:

• Apple StoreKit: For processing in-app purchases (managed entirely by Apple)
• Apple CloudKit: For optional iCloud sync (managed entirely by Apple, disabled by default)

8. Data Security

Your data is protected through multiple layers:

• On-device storage: Data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync
• App Lock: Optional Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode protection
• Decoy Mode: Entering an incorrect passcode shows fake data, protecting your real information
• Encrypted exports: Backups use AES-GCM encryption with a password you set
• No network surface: With no network requests, there is no attack surface for data interception

9. Children's Privacy

Fern does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App is rated 4+ on the App Store and is designed for general audiences.

10. Data Deletion

You have complete control over your data:

• Delete individual log entries at any time
• Use "Delete All Data" in Settings to permanently erase all data
• Uninstall the app to remove all data from your device

Since we don't store any data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make material changes to how we handle data, we will notify you through the App.

Our core commitment will never change: we will never collect your personal data.
